One Word Challenge.

We were challenged over at Modern8create
to make a little quilt with ONE word.
An inspirational word.
I don't know how inspiring this is....
But it's what I WANT to do this year!
Break EVERY quilting rule in the book!
How many rules are there???

1/4" seam.
Now.....
That's ONE rule that I already know HOW to break.

I'd love to hear about the "rules" you like to break!

  1. Plaids, polka dots and stripes can't be worn together - pooey - they make a swell quilt!

  2. I have been quilting for 3 years and still think of myself as a newbie. I really enjoy your blog and look to it for inspiration. The rule I want to break is PERFECTION. I struggle with being concerned that my quilting must be to a certain standard. I am going to learn to relish the process and appreciate the end result.

  3. Colors! No crossing the lines in your FMQ! and I totally agree with PERFECTION!! I have to stress that to my sewing sisters all the time - PERFECTION is unattainable - just do your best and enjoy it!!

PS: Rules? We don't need no stinkin' rules!!!! ;-)

  4. Only hand stitched bindings on quilts. I am fine with most quilts having machine stiched binding.

  8. Your little Rules quilt is fun. There are too many quilting rules broken in my sewing room to list. I'm a naughty girl when it comes to keeping those rules.

  12. I like to mix vintage fabric with new. I don't know if that's breaking a rule, but for some, it would feel wrong. I'm not one of those people!

  13. Who says the back of the quilt has to "match" or even "go with" the front?

  14. I enjoy breaking color rules most. Since I have taught myself to quilt, I probably break more than a few rules on a regular basis. I keep thinking I should take a class and find out what I am supposed to be doing, but where would the fun be in that?

  16. You've got some real renegades reading your blog - I love it! I don't think I've ever met a quilting rule that I didn't break.
